DRUG WARS: Prevention and Treatment Activities

One of our universal key social ills today is chemical and alcohol dependency, several estimates suggest that about 15% of South Africans have significant challenges around this issue.  The specific statistics vary according to the type of substance or drug, however we can agree conservatively that at least one in ten people will be affected by this condition.  The Rotary Club of Morningside, has driven and supported several projects in management of this pandemic.

Our club, has championed the construction of the South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (SANCA) facility in Diepsloot. Presently, we are supporting a SANCA Northgate Facility through, sponsorship of Operating Software which will enable SANCA to monitor and provide a database of all the patients being assisted at facility.  With exercise being the critical of patient rehabilitation for end to end effectiveness of the programme, the club also  sponsored gym equipment for the SANCA Northgate facility, which has been installed in the new Development. A formal handover took place on the 25th November 2015 at the Director General’s Club Visit, where the plaque was unveiled.
